To reduce Mustad’s impact on the waters, our latest fly hook range has launched in bio-based plastic packaging. Rather than plastic bags, we’ve chosen a durable, reusable box made of Polylactic acid (PLA) plastics, which is 100% biodegradable and compostable under certain conditions. PLA is extracted from natural, renewable resources like corn, potatoes, and beets. Not only is it made from sustainable materials, but also uses significantly less energy to produce while generating much fewer greenhouse gases. Fly tiers will welcome the reusability of the robust fly hook boxes. Heritage Fly Hooks are packed for easy access and stack well on fly tying workbenches. Mustad’s multi-stage sharpening process meticulously grinds the point to perfection to maintain as much of the wire as possible while reaching a single, ultra-sharp point tip. After the point is made, the hookshaping machining process begins.
By forging the hook wire along the shank, Mustad increases the pull strength without increasing the total wire diameter. The wire strength is maximized at the most critical point of the bend in the shank, leading to more durable hooks anglers can depend on.
